Financial Operations Manager

The Role

We are seeking a Manager of Financial Operations to lead and optimize our finance and accounting functions in a fast-growing EdTech company. This role will be responsible for overseeing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, general accounting, partner (business) contract management, and supporting strategic new projects.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong financial acumen, strategic mindset, and ability to leverage technology and AI tools to improve financial processes and decision-making. Additionally, this role requires strong external presentation and negotiation skills to facilitate partnership formulation for strategic projects. This role reports directly to the CEO.

Rosedale International Education Inc. (RIE) is a global education and technology provider based in Toronto, Canada, with a mission to reshape the future of worldwide education.

RIE owns and operates Rosedale Global High School, which partners with international schools and government organizations to deliver the Canadian Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)program locally, using collaborative in-person programs and digital technology.

Key Responsibilities

1. Finance & Financial Analysis

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support business growth and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and actionable insights for leadership.
  • Develop and monitor financial KPIs, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to optimize financial performance.
  • Implement automated financial reporting tools to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

2. Accounting & Compliance

  • Oversee general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure financial compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Lead the year-end close processes and tax filing, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and process improvements in financial operations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.

3. Business Contract Management

  • Maintain a contract database ensuring accuracy, compliance, and easy retrieval of agreements.
  • Conduct contract audits and financial term validation to minimize risks and improve financial transparency.
  • Track contract renewals, expirations, and financial commitments to ensure revenue optimization.
  • Work closely with legal and operations teams to ensure contract terms align with financial objectives and company policies.

4. Strategic Partnerships & External Negotiations

  • Represent the company in financial and strategic partnership discussions with non-core business partners, including educational institutions and professional firms
  • Lead financial negotiations and contract structuring for strategic collaborations
  • Develop financial models and business cases to support partnership proposals, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Present financial insights and partnership opportunities to external stakeholders, effectively communicating the company’s value proposition.
  • Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to facilitate new project partnerships, assessing financial risks and benefits.

5. New Project Support

  • Provide financial analysis and feasibility studies for new business initiatives, partnerships, and expansion projects.
  • Support technology and AI implementation in finance operations to improve accuracy and productivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial models for new product launches or strategic investments.

6. Leadership & Systems Improvement

  • Act as a financial business partner to department heads, ensuring alignment between financial goals and business strategy.
  • Evaluate and upgrade financial systems, transitioning from QuickBooks to a more scalable ERP or AI-powered financial system.
  • Implement automated financial reporting tools to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • 5+ years of management experience in finance, FP&A or financial operations.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to drive financial decision-making.
  • Experience with business contract management, particularly revenue contracts.
  • Proficiency in Excel financial modeling, and financial management systems.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present financial insights to external partners.
  • Experience in negotiating and structuring financial partnerships with non-core business partners.
  • Proven ability to implement process improvements and technology enhancements.

Preferred:

  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or CFA certification.
  • Experience in EdTech, SaaS, or technology-driven industries.
  • Exposure to AI-driven financial tools and data analytics.
  • Previous experience leading financial systems upgrade.
  • Experience in supporting mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships is plus
