In our second panel discussion, educators from Rosedale and beyond explored the growing need for competency-based education (CBE) in preparing students for the demands of a tech-driven world. As industries continue to evolve with advancements in technology, the skills required to succeed are shifting. This panel discussed how schools can emphasize core competencies that translate into practical skills, ensuring students are better prepared for real-world challenges.

Highlights from the Panel Discussion:

Prioritizing Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Adaptability Panelists stressed that academic knowledge alone isn’t enough in today’s workforce. Graduates need to possess critical thinking skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and the resilience to adapt to changing circumstances. This skill set allows students to navigate complex, unpredictable scenarios, making them valuable assets in any field.

Rosedale’s Five-Pillar Competency Framework The Rosedale team outlined their five-pillar framework for competency development, focusing on attributes like collaboration, creative problem-solving, and cultural awareness. This model encourages students to engage deeply with each skill area, giving them tools that go beyond traditional academic learning.

Application of Skills in Real-World Contexts Competency-based education puts a strong emphasis on applying knowledge in real-world situations, making education more practical and aligned with workforce demands. This approach allows students to build portfolios of real accomplishments and develop a track record of skills that are directly applicable to their future careers.

Preparing Students for a Tech-Driven World With CBE, students gain a well-rounded set of competencies that make them adaptable to new and emerging fields. This model not only prepares students for their initial job roles but also equips them with a growth mindset, enabling them to evolve as their careers progress.
